FAQs
What is a no claims discount (NCD) and can I qualify for it?
A no claim discount (NCD) is money taken off your premium to recognise that you haven't made a claim for a year or more, and you're the main driver on a UK motor insurance policy. Your no claim discount could increase with each consecutive year you don't claim.
You may also qualify if you're a named driver on another Aviva motor policy or you've earned a no claim discount driving in another country. Contact us (opens in a new tab or window) to find out.
You can only use your no claim discount on one vehicle at a time.
A no claim discount is valid for 2 years after your last motor insurance policy expires. If you haven't been a main driver on a policy for over 2 years, your no claim discount will no longer be valid.
Please see our motor insurance FAQs (opens in a new tab or window) for more information on no claim discount if you require more information before getting a quote.
How can I protect my no claim discount?
When you buy a motor insurance policy, you may get the option to protect your no claim discount (NCD) for an additional cost. Protecting your discount means you can make a claim without losing any of your discount at renewal, even if you were at fault. Your premium may change at renewal, but it won't increase as a direct result of one claim.

Can I get insurance if I use my vehicle for work?
We cover personal business use (eg driving between more than one work location or driving to see clients, but not making deliveries or driving paying passengers) automatically for the policyholder and their partner when insuring your car. You will need to select business use option when asked, if insuring a van.
If you need cover as a sole trader or company, you can get a quote here (opens in a new tab or window) .
Unfortunately, we cannot cover business use for chauffeurs, taxi drivers, driving instructors or parcel/takeaway/fast food delivery drivers if they are using the insured vehicle in connection with their occupation.
Why am I not able to get a quote?
There could be a number of things that affect whether we can quote you. These could include the age of a driver, the vehicle type or your driving history.
How do you decide the price of my motor insurance?
The price of your motor insurance can be affected by a range of factors, from the type of vehicle you own to our overall costs. Find out more at Your car insurance price explained (opens in a new tab or window) .
